I and my wife always vote on any issue but I don't think it should be mandatory for the simple reason that if you forced people to vote then a lot of people who can't be bothered voting will then close their eyes and just let the pen drop where it lands and put's the cross in that box, in other words, they cannot be bothered but do not want to be prosocuted.

Yes and that would lead to a lot of random votes.

I think voting should be highly encouraged but not mandatory.

That's what I mean Matt, I have known people that when I asked "Who are you voting for in the next general election?" their reply would be "I don't know, they are all as bad as each other and I will just put an X in a box and that's it...." or "I can't be bothered voting." That's why making voting mandatory useless, people will just put an X anywhere as they just cannot be bothered voting and don't follow any particular party, freedom of choice and that is what a democratic country means, not being forced into voting or you will prosecuted.

If people have a complaint about the way the country is being run, voting is a way they can make a change. Just choose a candidate that suit your political views. What annoys me is the people who 'can't be bothered to vote or too lazy to research political views' are the first ones to moan about how the country is being run. If people are too lazy to vote and actually vote properly - well don't moan and just get on with and accept how your country is being run.

I agree, if people don't vote they shouldn't complain about the country.
