in the case there is a technical error leading to an accident legally who would be responsible? Would there be a case for a lawsuit? excellent question In the case of an accident, which, with the right programming, shouldn't happen, I do NOT think that the company should take the whole blame, for example : An AI might not be the fault, it could be the cars motor, amount of petrol/diesel (or maybe electricity) .. Etc.. If the person has tampered with the machinery of the car, it might not function properly. I think that autonomy in cars is a GOOD thing.

Technology possibly can't make the kind of judgements a human can though, that's the thing.

I think the roads will be safer with self driving cars I'm not so sure of that, but with human cars and self driving cars mixed together there could be problems.
