How did you get into reading novels?
I personally got into reading in elementary school around fifth grade. My school did a reading rewards thing. If you read so many books you won prizes and such – like stuffed animals, pencils, etc… My one teacher was really into Harry Potter back when the first book came too. She ended up having us read it as a class with the audio book.
By the time I hit 6th grade we had mandatory reading classes where we read several books as a class over the course of the year and also had independent reading where we had to read so many books on our own as well. Most kids hated it in my school, but I didn’t mind as long as the books I got to choose from had some good ones. I used to be in love with the Boxcar Children books.
By the time I hit highschool was booked out. XD I picked up reading again for fun in College and still do it every so often. ^^

Books were included in my education since elementary school, I guess. Never hated reading or anything, and my school had a lovely library of stuff that interested me, I didn't grow up with constant internet access, so books were just the first natural source of information I had. Nowadays of course, the internet is for information, books are for entertainment. Mostly.

When I was young I absolutely hated to read. If I had to read a book my mother and I would split the reading up by pages or chapters. I still did not like it, but I was happier having her read it with my than being on my own. My problem was that I was never offered a book to read that I was actually interested in. It was then that I found out the I loved fantasy and especially talking animals. From then on I loved reading because I had found something I could actually enjoy. Though I still despise mandatory readings that are usually astronomically far from what I would be interested in.

Agreed, I always hated those mandatory readings, I prefer to read a book that I choose, not something someone picks for me lol.

( But yeah I've had my fair share of not-so-great school projects ) That's like so unfair that they did that lol.
