Turkish army officers said they seized power in the country as warplanes flew over the capital and tanks blocked roads in Istanbul. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said his government is still in control and will resist.
The military said in an e-mailed statement that it took power to restore freedom and democracy. It said all international agreements will be honored. It wasn’t clear whether the whole army was involved.

I'll try and give a explanation on what's been happening in Turkey. Basically, the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, as been slowly turning the country into a dicatorship. He has cut funding for the military, and eliminated several military officals, teachers and has shut down any media that has been critical of him and/or Islam. Some in the military finally had enough and tried to oust him from power while he was on vacation, but he is back in the country now and it seems that the group that tried to get rid of him failed.
I can only imagine what he is going to do to people there now.
