I have recently heard about that there was a utility pole fire somewhere near Chicago that resulted in damages to RCN's fiber network. Even though I use RCN for my internet access, I was not even effected since I'm on the eastern side of Pennsylvania. I don't know much about it as I can't seem to find any relevant news articles other than what was said about it on Reddit. Since there has been a mention of eyewitnesses stating that a Comcast van was seen quickly peeling out and driving away moments after the fire started, it makes me wonder if this was arson caused by a competitor to RCN.

I honestly doubt that a competitor would set someone else's utility pole on fire.
