I'm in a country that's never let people have guns, it's been working fine without them. It's definitely not going to be the same for every country and banning guns isn't going to stop violence, but IMO they're unnecessary for most people. Although I guess some people would prefer to have guns for hunting or dealing with wild animals.

If nobody had guns than people wouldn't need guns to protect themselves.

If nobody had guns than people wouldn't need guns to protect themselves. Some of them in rural places use it for defense against nature

If nobody had guns than people wouldn't need guns to protect themselves. That's the problem right there. If no one had guns... that only works for law abiding citizens who will respect a no gun law. Criminals will still be criminals and they'll fuel the black market in gun trading. Just because something is used to hurt people (which there are many things used to hurt people) doesn't mean we should not have it. People are going to get hurt and people will die because there are bad people out there who want to harm others.

Criminals will still be criminals and they'll fuel the black market in gun trading. Wouldn't that, at least morally speaking, be better than just selling the guns to the criminals legally? Just because something is used to hurt people (which there are many things used to hurt people) doesn't mean we should not have it. But, guns can only hurt people. Strictly speaking you can kill someone unarmed, but we can't exactly take away peoples hands. You can't outlaw knives because those are primarily a tool, not a weapon. Same logic applies to cars, hammers, axes etc. People are going to get hurt and people will die because there are bad people out there who want to harm others. I agree, people who want to, can always find a way to hurt other people. But, at the very least, enforcing much stricter gun laws almost immediately limits the ways people can hurt each other. Now I completely agree that there should be strict standards in place to qualify you to legally obtain a gun so that it is not just a breeze for a bad person to get their hands on one. Would you agree that a ban on things like assault rifles, and sub machine guns could help lower gun related crimes? At the moment, after I don't even want to count how many mass shootings in the US, people can still buy military grade rifles with little to no background checks at gun shows, and probably a few too many stores.
