Earlier today I saw the newspaper reviews on tv and they said that a cure for all types of cancer could be just 2 years away.
I have not read the article as I have not got the newspapers today so I don’t know how much weight is behind the headline, but if it is true that would be a majored life changing breakthrough. Does anyone know more about this news story?
What do you all think? Do you think it will happen or do you think that they are just trying to sell papers?

Sounds way too good to be true, and If there was any doubt about it, I don't think any cancer research centers would claim anything of the sort unless they were sure.
There are people with various types of cancer now who could theoretically live until the supposed "cure" would be available. To dangle hope like this in front of them is pretty inhumane.

I agree, but the newspapers would to sell their papers and many 24/7 news shows tend to make up stories until they actually get some real facts. But I hope it is true and not just spin to get a headline.

There will never be a cure for cancer released - too much money to be made by big Pharma companies dishing out pills.

Whilst there may be some truth in what Chessica says, here's what I heard in the UK about a month ago, and this was on the radio news. What I heard (Trying to remember now), was using something the patient's immune system to fight against it rather than traditonal radio & chemotherapy, and that trials could begin within 2 years. If true, if that's possible - that's surely a good thing right? I have had a relation who had cancer and so have been directly affected in the past. Just did a quick Google to find a link, UK BBC News: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-35718491

Thanks @peterjxd, I will check out that link later when I get the chance.
I had a relative pass away because of cancer, I was young at the time and was somewhat shielded from everything that was happening, but I was told enough to know what was happening to the extent that I needed to know at that age. Of course we talk about it all now that I am older.
But cancer is not nice and it affects so many people and families, a non poison type of cure like chemo with all of the harsh side effects would be greatly welcome.

There will never be a cure for cancer released - too much money to be made by big Pharma companies dishing out pills. I'd just like to offset this comment with something a bit more positive. Even if a cure for cancer, or AIDS, or anything else really, was developed, It would take a pretty unique set of circumstances before any private entity could claim dominion over it, making it impossible to reproduce elsewhere. For starters, it's not guaranteed that such a cure would be developed by a private corporation, or person, who could set the pricing for it. If it was developed in a more socialist country, like Canada or the Nordic countries, the cure would probably be free anyway to anyone who needed it, or at least affordable. There's also the more likely possibility that such cures would be developed by international organizations, specifically devoted to a specific cause, like fighting cancer. They wouldn't hide the victory if they found a cure. But even if it was made by someone who wanted to charge 1000 Dollars per pill, for example, If it was developed one place, It can be replicated in another. If one person makes it, someone else can too, and cheaper. Martin Shkreli, the closest mankind as come to an actual Bond Villain, raised the price of Daraprim tablets from 13.5 Dollars per tablet, to 750 per tablet. Most hated man in America, and an absolute piece of shit all around. I really hopes he gets Lou Gehrigs disease. But In India, the same drug would have cost you about 10 cents a tablet. So, the future isn't that bleak, there's hope yet.
