I don't remember all the details, but a plane crashed on an island that was suppposed to be deserted. However, strange things started to happen and it turned out that the destiny of the main characters were somehow interlocked in the past. It was a bit complicated to follow, particularly if you missed some episodes...

I have maybe seen parts of half the episodes, but nothing in continuation, which makes it hard to follow the various plots.

It was a bit complicated to follow, particularly if you missed some episodes... That's the way of most TV shows these days. It's being considered a sort of "golden age" of television, because of the longer storylines and production quality poured into so many mainstream TV shows. The "monster of the week" types of narrative seen in the X-Files for example, have almost died out these days, in favor of longer, more interconnected episodes.

Sometimes, when I watch NCIS, Hawaii 5-O and the likes, the action abruptly ends with "to be continued" appearing on the screen. Annoying...

I liked Lost. Walking Dead Gothom, Young and the restless, Price is right, cooking shows, Criminal Minds I use to like Hawaii 5'0 but the last season it got too hokey for me. More soap operish. Then I like old reruns
