I played minecraft for the first time this summer

i played minecraft for the first time this summer, I would say I liked the game, I didn't really like survival mode but I do like the creative mode, it is quite fun, would anyone here recommend that I pay the 30$ to buy a minecraft membership?

It's not a membership dude, It's the whole game. And yeah, I would. I've sunk maybe 100 hours into it, and I still play it on and off, even though It's very old by now.
Even if you get tired of the core game, there's an incredibly expansive modding community you can delve into, all of it for free.

Aren't they constantly updating minecraft though as well?

They haven't made any huge updates for a while, given the games age, but it still has a development team assigned to it.
The biggest updates come from the modding community though, and they are persistent, and free to use.

Are the mods free? I thought you had to pay for them.

The mods on PC are free yes, and there is a TON of them out there. On Xbox and PS however you have to pay money if you want things like different skins and texture packs. It's really just a money-grab imo. But see how it fits you, maybe you're made of money? Who knows..

For me I bought Minecraft back in 2009 when it was literally an eighth of what it has become now. There is soooo much more stuff to do since I bought it, and that was when it cost $15 USD.
And now they have that umm, story mode which I haven't checked out yet but it looks promising. A lot few friends have played The Walking Dead series made by Telltale and they said it was fantastic so I have a good feeling about MC Story mode.

The main thing that attracted a lot of people to MC (I think) is that anyone can pick it up in a few minutes and play it with their friends. The online aspect is great, so many different game modes on PC like Hunger Games, Superheroes v Villains, GTA etc. So I think it's only natural for Mojang (or whoever) to come out with an ACTUAL SP mode since the SP mode they have now is more like a ... loneliness simulator haah, or perhaps that's just my own projections/interpretations.

Play the demo, if you think it's fun enough... Buy the game

There's a free version on the Minecraft website. It comes in Downloadable form and In-Browser.

I'm not sure what version the demo is now but it's probably still the same demo they had from back in 2009/2010
