Microsoft is a company, they exist only by making profits. They by necessity have to charge for their products.
Of course It's alright for them to charge for Windows 10. Just like they charged money for Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, XP, 99, 98, 95 etc. Developing these things, and keeping them updated costs money.
Computer and software are not mutually exclusive; Buying one doesn't entitle you to the other. And you do also get free updates with each Windows version. Microsoft is always adding and updating and revising their OS systems, and you get these updates for free. A Software upgrade is an entirely different animal, as these take years of development to produce, seeing as they have to outdo an older but regularly updating OS.
Additionally, Microsoft announced well ahead of time, that the free upgrade would be limited time only, this was never a big secret, which is why Windows 10 grew so rapidly during its first year.
Just to reiterate; They didn't turn around and decide to charge money for it, it was a marketing strategy people knew about all along.

Technology changes like every six months from what I hear and they are always trying to improve things with the product. It costs them money to make these improvements so they have to charge for it. With the windows 10 upgrade they did announce it was for a limited amount of time. I signed up for it once they announced what they were going to do.

They shouldn't charge at all. Typical example of corporate greed. You hit the nail on the head there, the owner of Microsoft is a billionaire so why charge?

Using that logic, we shouldn't pay for new phones, cars or clothing anymore, because the CEOs of most major companies are also billionaires. Your definition of corporate greed is that a company charges for their core products?

Millionaires are millionaires, Vincent, because they genuinely worked for it. Billionaires, however, are just greedy which is why they strive to become billionaires. They're not happy with what they've already got.
